Um 1770 nahm Landgräfin Caroline Änderungen in der Parkgestaltung vor und wandelte so auch den ehemaligen Steinbruch um in einen vertieften Gartenplatz. An diesem Ort traf sich die Hofdame Luise von Ziegler mit ihren Freundinnen und Freunden. Unter ihnen war auch der junge Advokat Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, der 1772 als Gast in Homburg weilte und der ihr - Lila - das Gedicht „Pilgers Morgenlied“ widmete. Dieser Teil des Parks wird im Volksmund daher auch Goethes Ruh genannt.
