Das nach dem Dichter benannte Hölderlin-Haus in der Dorotheenstr. 34 ist eine der Adressen, die Hölderlin während zweier Aufenthalte in Homburg bewohnte (1804 bis 1805). Das Haus ist nicht im Originalzustand. Es war 1974 abgerissen und 1986 wieder aufgebaut worden. Nach dem Tod Susette Gontards und beruflichen Misserfolgen hatte sich Hölderlins geistige Verfassung so stark verschlechtert, dass Sinclair ihn drängte, wieder nach Homburg zu kommen. 1804 wurde Hölderlin vom Landgrafen zum Hofbibliothekar ernannt, das Gehalt übernahm Sinclair. Er auch war es, der sich um den Dichter kümmerte. Unterstützt wurde er dabei von seiner Mutter, Frau von Proeck.
